How my feltmaking studio contributes to a greener planet

As a feltmaker, I believe creativity can drive positive change. In my studio, I create beautiful, sustainable art while minimizing my environmental impact. Every step of my process is carefully considered, from the materials I use to the packaging I choose, all aimed at supporting a greener planet.

Sustainable Materials at the Heart of My Work

I prioritize natural fibers like wool, silk, and alpaca, which are renewable, biodegradable, and far gentler on the environment than synthetic materials. This commitment ensures my felted creations are both stunning and sustainable, supporting a healthier planet.

Reducing Waste and Repurposing Materials

I make every effort to reduce waste in my studio. Leftover wool from past projects is repurposed into new pieces or used for experiments, while even small scraps are kept for future projects. For packaging, I reuse materials like plastic from address labels and shredded paper to cushion my shipments, and even the parcel tape I use is recyclable.

Recycling and Composting

I compost wool and other natural fibers that can’t be reused, helping to reduce landfill waste. I also make sure to recycle paper, cardboard, and other materials from packaging to support a circular economy and limit environmental impact.

Reusing Packaging Materials

I carefully reuse boxes and packaging materials from my suppliers to store and ship my products, reducing the need for new materials. Tissue paper and bubble wrap are also reused to further minimize waste.

Eco-Conscious Shipping Practices

When sending out my felted creations, I use biodegradable packaging materials like recycled paper and cardboard, aiming to minimize excess packaging and waste. This ensures that my shipping process is both practical and environmentally friendly.

Sustainable Products: Felt Soaps, Advent Calendars, and Pressed Flowers

I offer felt soaps, which are biodegradable and compostable, as well as reusable advent calendars designed to be enjoyed year after year. Additionally, my pressed flower products are made entirely from natural materials, showcasing the beauty of nature in an eco-friendly way.

Joining the Good Business Charter

I’m proud to have been accepted into the Good Business Charter, which advocates for responsible, sustainable business practices. This recognition reflects my commitment to ethical environmental practices and highlights my dedication to running a studio that respects both the Earth and its resources.

Art with Purpose: Raising Environmental Awareness

Through my work, I explore themes related to nature, climate change, and environmental conservation. My creations encourage reflection on our relationship with the planet, inspiring others to adopt more sustainable practices in their own lives.

Conclusion: Feltmaking for a Greener Future

In my studio, sustainability isn’t just a goal—it's a guiding principle. From eco-friendly materials and waste reduction to joining the Good Business Charter, I strive to make a positive impact on the planet. By embracing sustainable practices, I hope to inspire others to join me in creating a more environmentally conscious future
